Course Overview

This CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) course is designed to train participants in the skills and knowledge required to act as a Traffic Marshaller on construction sites. The course focuses on the safe movement of vehicles, effective communication, and compliance with site safety standards.

    • Individuals with little to no experience who wish to gain the CPCS Red Card for Traffic Marshaller (A73).

    • Experienced workers looking to formalize their skills and obtain certification.

    • Traffic Control and Vehicle Guidance

      • Pre-checks of traffic management equipment

      • Guiding vehicles safely within confined spaces

      • Ensuring pedestrian safety and site compliance

    • Emergency Procedures

      • Identifying potential hazards and responding appropriately

      • Managing traffic in emergency situations

    • Scenario-Based Practice

      • Directing multiple vehicle types

      • Managing blind spots and ensuring driver visibility

    • Hoist Operations

      • Pre-operational checks and safety inspections

      • Operating the hoist for passenger and goods transport

      • Safely loading and unloading materials

      • Emergency stop procedures and troubleshooting

    • Safe Site Practices

      • Working around pedestrians and other machinery

      • Communicating with team members effectively

    • Emergency Situations

      • Responding to equipment malfunctions and incidents

    • Theory Test:

      • Assessment covering health and safety, operational procedures, and communication methods.

    • Practical Test:

      • Demonstration of traffic marshalling skills, including:

        • Directing vehicle movements accurately and safely

        • Managing pedestrian and vehicle interaction

        • Using hand signals and radios effectively

        • Implementing emergency traffic control procedures

    • Participants must be at least 18 years old.

    • Basic English skills to understand the training and complete tests.

    • A valid CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) Test passed within the last 2 years is required.

  • Successful candidates will receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Traffic Marshaller (A73), certifying their competence to work as a trained marshaller on construction sites.
