Course Overview

This CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) course is designed to train participants in the safe operation of forward-tipping dumpers and ride-on rollers. The course combines theory, practical training, and testing, ensuring candidates can meet industry safety and competency standards.

    • Individuals with little to no experience wishing to gain the CPCS Red Card for Forward Tipping Dumper (A09) and Ride-on Roller (A31).

    • Experienced operators seeking formal certification.

    • Understanding the Roles of Dumper & Roller Operators

      • Responsibilities on-site

      • Communicating with other team members and site managers

    • Health & Safety Regulations

      • Key legislation: PUWER, LOLER, and Health & Safety at Work Act

      • Risk assessments and hazard awareness

      • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements

    • Machine Features and Functions

      • Dumper and roller components and controls

      • Pre-operational checks and maintenance requirements

    • Safe Operating Practices

      • Working in confined spaces and on inclines

      • Avoiding hazards and ensuring load stability

    • Forward-Tipping Dumper Operations

      • Conducting pre-use checks and maintenance

      • Safe loading and unloading of materials

      • Maneuvering the dumper in tight spaces

      • Working on inclines and uneven terrain

    • Ride-on Roller Operations

      • Pre-operational checks and maintenance

      • Compacting soil, gravel, and other materials effectively

      • Safe operation near slopes and edges

      • Coordinating with other site machinery

    • Emergency Procedures

      • Identifying potential hazards and responding appropriately

    • Theory Test:

      • A written and verbal assessment covering health and safety, operational procedures, and machine knowledge.

    • Practical Test:

      • Demonstration of safe and effective operation of both dumper and roller equipment, including:

        • Pre-use inspections

        • Loading, unloading, and material handling

        • Operating machinery safely in various site conditions

        • Compacting materials effectively with the roller

    • Participants must be at least 18 years old.

    • Basic English skills to understand the training and complete tests.

    • A valid CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) Test passed within the last 2 years is required.

  • Candidates who successfully pass the tests will receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Forward Tipping Dumper (A09) and Ride-on Roller (A31), enabling them to work as trained operators.
