Course Overview

This CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to operate concrete pumps safely and efficiently on construction sites. The course covers both theoretical and practical aspects, concluding with a CPCS assessment.

    • Individuals with little to no experience who wish to gain the CPCS Red Card for Concrete Pump Operator.

    • Experienced operators seeking formal certification for truck-mounted or trailer-mounted concrete pumps.

    • Understanding the Role of a Concrete Pump Operator

      • Responsibilities on-site

      • Communication and coordination with site teams

    • Health & Safety Regulations

      • Key legislation: PUWER, LOLER, and Health & Safety at Work Act

      • Risk assessments and hazard identification

      • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements

    • Types of Concrete Pumps

      • Overview of truck-mounted and trailer-mounted concrete pumps

      • Features, functions, and components of equipment

    • Preparation for Pumping Operations

      • Inspecting and setting up the equipment

      • Assessing site conditions and identifying potential hazards

    • Operating Concrete Pumps Safely

      • Conducting pre-use checks and maintenance

      • Setting up the pump and preparing for operations

      • Safely pumping concrete to specified locations

      • Managing hoses, booms, and discharge areas

    • Handling Emergencies

      • Identifying and responding to equipment failures

      • Implementing emergency shutdown procedures

    • Cleaning and Maintenance

      • Safely cleaning the pump and associated equipment

      • Routine maintenance to ensure ongoing safety

    • Theory Test:

      • Assessment of health and safety knowledge, operational procedures, and machine-specific understanding.

    • Practical Test:

      • Demonstration of safe and effective operation of a concrete pump, including:

        • Inspecting and setting up the pump

        • Operating the pump for concrete placement

        • Responding to potential hazards and managing emergencies

        • Cleaning and maintaining the equipment

    • Participants must be at least 18 years old.

    • Basic English skills to understand the training and complete tests.

    • A valid CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) Test passed within the last 2 years is required.

  • Candidates who successfully pass the theory and practical tests will be awarded the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for Concrete Pump Operator, certifying their ability to operate truck-mounted or trailer-mounted pumps safely and effectively.
